Good times at Spring Camp hosted by Strathcona Nordic Ski Club

StrathconaSpringCamp

(Campbell River, BC) – The Vancouver Island Teck Regional Spring Camp was a huge success. Although typically an on-snow camp, that was not possible this year. However the multitude of challenging and fun activities packed into the weekend more than made up for the lack of snow.

Held at Strathcona Park Lodge on the shores of Upper Campbell Lake, central Vancouver Island, 43 athletes and 6 coaches enjoyed great weather, great food and a pile of super fun activities. Highlights included the high ropes course, zip line and tree climb activities and two yoga sessions with Strathcona Park Lodge staff. Training sessions included a long distance run, strength and agility, visualization, goal setting and the ever popular camp relay. This year, the camp relay consisted of water based activities and included a canoe lesson for all athletes from master canoe instructor, Jamie Boulding. Races in freighter canoes, tandem canoes and stand up paddle boards we’re all part of the fun. Good times, great training and an awesome experience we’re had by all.

The Teck Regional Camp organizers and the Strathcona Nordic Ski Club would like to thank all of the athletes, volunteers and Teck Resources Limited for making it a successful one!

Teck Regional Snow Camp (Coast) Dec 13-14, 2014

This is an on snow camp for 9-14 year olds in the region.  Athletes will stay at the Athletes’ Lodge, located in the Athletes’ Village in Whistler. For more details on the camp click here. To make the camp run smoothly and keep costs low we are looking for volunteers to:
• drive kids from Whistler Olympic Park to the athlete lodge on Saturday afternoon and back to Whistler Olympic Park on Sunday.
• help coordinate the food preparation and distribution on Saturday night and Sunday morning.
• stay over and provide supervision at the athlete lodge on the Saturday night. Note that those people staying over at the lodge need to be coaches (e.g. certified with an up to date Criminal Record Check)
Please email: admin@whistlernordics.com  to confirm where you can help.

Haywood NorAms World Junior Trials & Canada Winter Games Trials, Dec 20 & 21, Whistler Olympic Park

The 2014 Haywood Noram / Canada Winter Games Trials are coming to the Callaghan Valley this year, and you are invited to join the volunteer crew!
The CVXC club (an affiliation of the Nordic Racers, Hollyburn Cross Country, Whistler Nordics and Spud Valley Nordics) is hosting the Haywood NorAms World Junior Trials and Canada Winter Games Trials at Whistler Olympic Park this December 20 and 21.  The race formats are classic sprints (Saturday) and freestyle distance (Sunday) with Friday as an official training day.
This event will also be a qualifying event for the 2015 World Juniors and trials for the 2015 Canada Winter Games that take place in Prince George February 13 to March 1.
If you can help out, please register as a volunteer on zone4 at this address: https://zone4.ca/reg.asp?id=7702&lan=1&cartlevel=1  and we will be in touch.  A limited amount of accommodation is available for volunteers who register early and volunteer both days!
Would you like to learn more about different parts of the race, the various jobs and roles?  Sign up for the next Officials Level 1 course https://zone4.ca/reg.asp?id=7707, to be held November 15 in Vancouver.  Members of the Whistler Nordics are reimbursed for their fee if they volunteer at an event this year.  Progressing through the officials courses is great to build confidence and knowledge, and opens up more opportunities for you (ie you get better jobs at the event!).
If you have any questions, please email me at volunteer@callaghanxcski.ca. We would really appreciate your time at the Haywood Ski Nationals on Dec. 20-21.
Thank you for your support of amateur racing.
Helen Cook, Volunteer Coordinator

Coast Cup #3 – Jan 18, 2015, Whistler Olympic Park

Spud Valley Nordics host the 2nd day of racing on the 17-18 weekend and are in need of similar volunteers to Coast Cup #2. Registration opens in December 2014.

Coast Cup #2 – Feb 14, 2015, Whistler Olympic Park

The Whistler Nordics host the 2nd of five Cross Country events in the Teck Coast Cup Series on January 17th at Whistler Olympic Park

No ongoing time commitment is required just some spare time on Saturday Jan 17th and ideally some transportation to get to the Callaghan (we can arrange car pooling if required). There are Chiefs in place in all the key areas to provide direction for keen and enthusiastic volunteers, no experience necessary. Last year we had 130 athletes from Vancouver Island, Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler, and Pemberton participate in the races and 50 volunteers played a part in the success of the event. If you feel you would be a good fit for any of the volunteer roles below please register to volunteer (online registration will open in Jan 2015) or email admin@whistlerenordics.com if you have any questions.
