Family/youth friendly upcoming events

Spud Valley Loppet ( Sunday Feb 10th @ Pemberton Meadows )
– a family event on the dykes and meadows of Pemberton, a mass start event
http://spudvalleynordics.com/
Lost Lake Classic (Sunday, Feb 17th @ Lost Lake )
– a family fun event on the lost lake trails, which is an individual start classic ski ( race it if you wish but its really about getting back to our “roots” and skiing our true home trails )
https://whistlernordics.com/index.php/events/lost-lake-classic/
Payak ( Sat Feb 23rd @ WOP )
– a fun kids activity day for those 12 and younger or a loppet length recreational race for those 13 and over ( 15 km / 30 km / 50 km )
– sign-up is open and the kids event does fill up and so there is some urgency if kids wish to participate, prices escalate too after the end of month.
– I suspect that the regular SDP could not be accommodated on the same day as the race and related activities dominate the venue for the day.
www.payak.ca
Midget Chamionships ( March 2nd-3rd,  @ Revelstoke BC )
– Very important event for all clubs throughout the province as its typically the introduction to racing for those in grades 4-7
– we have typically sent a dozen or more kids and families in past and have had good results, but the event is focused on participation and fun
– very fun event for families and a great opportunity to build the next group of racers at the Track Attack age level.

Many of these recreational races are strongly geared to families skiing together and therefore much less intimidating than some of the other events.

WOP Volunteer Recognition Program

WOP Volunteer Recognition Program
This year the Whistler Nordics Ski Club is involved in organizing the Haywood Ski Nationals through the umbrella of Callaghan Valley Cross Country.  This event is part of the Sea to Sky Nordic Festival at Whistler Olympic Park, March 15 to 31, 2013.  The S2SNF is the national championships for all three nordic sports that WOP can host – biathlon, cross country, and ski jumping/nordic combined.  It will be a mini-Olympics with over 900 athletes, 99 medal events, 12 paranordic competitions, and over 500 volunteers will be needed to make it all happen.
To show their appreciation to the volunteers who make these events possible, and to encourage early volunteer commitment, WOP has prepared a recognition program.  In short, you will earn one voucher per day you volunteer, and these vouchers can be redeemed for a variety of products at WOP – from day tickets to waxing.  Go to http://skinationals.com/2013/?p=327 to read about how the vouchers can be rembursed.  Go here (https://zone4.ca/reg.asp?id=3770&lan=1&cartlevel=1) to register for your vouchers.  You MUST also register as a volunteer for one of the three events – biathlon, cross country and ski jumping/nordic combined.  Click here (https://zone4.ca/register.asp?id=3864&lan=1&cartlevel=1) to register for biathlon or ski jumping and click here (https://zone4.ca/reg.asp?id=3103) to register for cross country.
Vouchers must be used this year.  They will be available beginning February 1.  There is a limited number so don’t miss out, volunteer today!
